I've just changed over the DNS entries for ns1.fictionalcompany.com and ns2.fictionalcompany.com. This should be invisible to our users, but it's the last step that we need to take to get us completely off the old server. As always, if you notice anything strange happening with your domain, please let us know.
Posted by jcn at 10.14.2003If you have set up subfolders in your webmail, they are currently either not appearing or displaying an error message when you attempt to access them. The email in your subfolders is not lost — if you need immediate access to those messages, you can access them on the old server at oldmail.fictco.com, using the old login (which includes @yourdomain). We're currently working to fix the problem on the new server.
UPDATE (4:00pm) We've tracked down the problem, but it needs to be fixed on a case-by-case basis. If you're using webmail, let us know, and we'll repair the subfolders. DO NOT CREATE ANY NEW SUBFOLDERS until we've worked our magic.
Posted by JVG at 10.11.2003All in all, the transfer seems to have gone smoothly, but we've stumbled on a couple of small bugs that needed to be ironed out. If you encounter any problems, please email us so we can fix 'em.
Posted by JVG at 10.11.2003FTP Login, your main POP account and additional POP accounts, and Blogger and Movable Type settings. You may also have to adjust how you log in to webmail.
Posted by JVG at 10.11.2003The server transfer is now complete. You can now resume updating your website. Please check out our support documentation for the new settings that you might need for your email, ftp and blogging applications.
Please reboot your computer to make sure that you are getting the new IP address for the server. We have found that, in the past, a lot of problems can be solved by rebooting.
Please feel free to contact support for any assistance you may need.
Posted by jcn at 10.11.2003The server switch begins now. Don't make any changes to your site until further notice.
Posted by JVG at 10.10.2003The great sever switch starts tonight at 7pm. With it, better reliability and increased traffic. Woo!
IMPORTANT: DO NOT UPDATE YOUR SITE AFTER 7PM TONIGHT. This includes posting to your blog. Any changes you make after that time will likely get lost in the wilds of the internet. We'll post progress updates on this site.
When everything is ready to go again (ideally, in the wee hours of the morning) we'll let you know. When that happens, you'll need to update some settings in your email program, FTP program, and blog (be it Movable Type or Blogger. )
We're hoping this goes smoothly, but with a server switch you never know. We'll keep you appraised.
